Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and organized individual to participate in the microarray core facility of Advanced Genomics. In this key role you will run hybridization experiments with DNA microarrays and sequencing experiments. Expertise is required in commercial microarray platforms - for example Agilent, Illumina or Affymetrix.

You will be responsible for performing microarray assays, gene expression experiments, hybridization, and sample quality assessments, troubleshooting laboratory procedures, and analyzing microarray data. Familiarity with array platforms including expression and SNP arrays is required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences
• Skill with molecular biology and microarray/gene chip techniques including Affymetrix or Agilent or Illumina array platforms
• Experience with microarray sample preparation, hybridization and analysis
• Working knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques and microarray technology
• Strong interest in bio-informatics, experience using Windows NT, Windows 2000, Linux/UNIX operating systems
• Familiarity with specialized microarray software such as Gene Spring

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and organized individual to work independently and collaboratively to extract and interpret the results of microarray expression and high-throughput PCR experiments, as well as the analyzing and reporting of gene expression and sequencing experiments such as genomic, mRNA, microRNA. The candidate’s responsibilities shall include installation and testing of software for pre-processing, analysis of high throughput experiment data.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate shall have 1-2 years of experience with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or computer science.

• Working experience in microarray data processing and analysis of one or more of the following platforms: Affymetrix, Illumina or Agilent
• Working experience in sequence data processing and analysis of genomic and mRNA sequencing
• Experience extracting and normalizing Affymetrix and other microarray platforms' data
• Perform analyses of expression data to determine statistical significance, e.g. ANOVA
• Annotate expression data with associated gene and/or transcript information from published information
• Perform analyses of expression data to group genes by expression profile similarity, e.g. Hierarchical or K-Means clustering
• Perform analyses of gene-sets to determine their biologic profiles and the statistical significance, e.g. by gene ontology or pathways
• Expression analysis and the various tools for computational, statistical and functional analyses involved
• Working experience of public databases such as NCBI for gene and protein sequences, and microarray, microRNA
• Strong understanding of the object oriented programming paradigm
• Web based programming languages or libraries such as .NET, PHP and JavaScript, and experience in XML will be an asset
• Attention to detail, strong organizational and troubleshooting abilities, strong written and oral communication skills

Advanced Genomics is a genomics-led research, development, and complete health solution provider company.  We have an opening for a genomic co-operative education position. The co-op student will get hands on training on microarray experiments, data acquisition and data analysis. Our research combines the genomics and bioinformatics tools to identify biomarkers for infectious diseases. As a student in the research team the candidate will have the opportunity to extend working knowledge in a variety of disciplines such as cell culture, microarray experiments, data processing and data analysis by using various software tools. Candidates having background in genomics and bioinformatics and are willing to work for 8 - 12 months are preferred.
